Texasman Music Video

From Sig Wilder & Friends

Fresh Aotearoa-Americana, Alt-Country

Texasman is about the past - about youth and its tendency to slip away. The song concerns the time Sig Wilder lived in Austin with an indie pop band. They were living far away from home with big plans and dreams. The Texas man in the song is the one and only Willie Nelson, who embodies the spirit and legacy of Texas music.

Sig Wilder’s expression of yearning for recognition and the spotlight, juxtaposed with their current state, feeling like they're still in 'some dull shade of green.’

Texasman weaves a fill-in-the-blanks story with evocative lyrics that mirror the artist's journey through the ups and downs of life away from home and the aspirations to follow. The chorus, infused with an unforgettable melody, serves as an alt-country gem that invites listeners to reflect on their own aspirations, their own 'Texasman,' and the indelible marks left by youthful dreams and the passage of time.

Texasman’s initial pulse engages the ear, opening quickly to a timeless acoustic guitar sound. Then Sig Wilder’s voice kicks in with supple rasp rupturing the barrier between artist and audience. It continues in waves of emotive dynamics, swelling between the verse and chorus like magic. It leaves you needing the next phase.

Tune in to the alt-country sound that's as comforting as a front porch swing and as moving as a lullaby from a country music great! Indulge in the perfect blend of twangy guitars, melancholic lyrics, and a handful of nostalgia that defines the alt-country genre.

“The band’s most recent release, “Light Tower,” encapsulates a dreamy and warm sound that soothes the restless heart.”

From the director:
Taylor Nixon

"In crafting Sig Wilder's Music Video for Texasman, I wanted to not only tell a story sensitive to the song's powerful lyrics, but also wanted something striking, that'd stand out in the world of Music Video content. Coming up with the concept of a performance of sorts from the band, being captured by a portrait artist. Working alongside Sig (which was an absolute treat) we crafted unique scenes throughout the video, always relating back to the song's lyrics and central themes. I can't wait for the next one with this amazing group of people. “

Hailing from the mountain ranges of Taranaki, Taylor moved to Wellington to pursue his love of writing and filmmaking - while working in Art Department on projects such as Time Bandits and the Avatar Sequels, in his spare time, he wrote and directed his own projects, creating the award winning short, Absence of Emily, the comedy collective Rickety Banter, and the two-time Best Pilot, Roadie among other projects.

Now he’s working in the music and commercial scene, capturing music videos for Aotearoa greats like Sofia Machray, Estelle Sierra, Milktooth, and Sig Wilder. He also captures events like Fringe Festival, Classical on Cuba, and Froth at the Grand, while crafting commercials for companies like Xero and FIFA.

Passionate about telling stories that connect and uplift, Taylor is always gearing up for a new project, and learning from the professionals working around him. He's also the founder of Proud Dad, a collaborative community facilitating connection within the creative scene of Aotearoa.
